The base of what we teach is ITF Taekwondo but in an old style that is distinctly different from modern Olympic Taekwondo. The result is Taeknowdo that resembles Kyokushin or Shotokan.
-We teach so much more than Martial Arts-
Bruce Lee once said that unless someone grew an extra limb there’d never be a new way to fight. There is a limited number of ways to throw a kick or a punch but you can learn that from YouTube. At Southern Indiana Karate we teach life skills through Martial arts training. Self Discipline, Focus, Goal Setting, Courage, Respect. and more. By building black belts we’re building capable strong people.
The physical and mental benefits of traditional martial arts training are for everyone regardless of age. Physically you’ll gain balance, coordination, and flexibility, while mentally you’ll learn to push yourself to excel and achieve new goals.

The center characters translate to “Empty Cup” This is a martial arts and life philosophy that forms the root of what we teach.
Consider everything you know about any subject was held in a tea cup. A tea cup can hold quite a bit of liquid but once it’s full it’s easy to overflow. When you approach life with a teacup full of knowledge you can’t learn anything new. What if, instead, you were to empty your cup into a greater reservoir of knowledge? Then you can approach every situation with an empty cup… Ready to lean, grow, and be filled.
Even if you already know something, there’s always room to grow, stretch, and fill an empty cup.
An empty cup isn’t an unthinking mind that is swayed by every thing that comes it’s way, but it is a mind that is able to weigh the old vs. the new and balance between the two. The empty cup is a mind that can be challenged, that can grow, and that can overcome.
The Surrounding leaves represent personal growth through martial arts training.
